Each city looks and feels unique. Regional culture, typography, dialect, local customs and many more factors play a part in defining a city’s differences. For Atlanta (pictured above), the metro plays a part in defining those differences. Metro Maps show the skeleton of a city. The design and style of the maps appears reflective of the particular place. They may be seen as not only maps, but individual expressions of a local identity. -

Street Artist of the Day: Stik

Stik is one of London’s most prolific street artists and his brightly coloured stick men may be found all over East London. Although simple Stik’s androgynous stick men that are nevertheless capable of conveying complex body language and emotion. Stik himself was homeless for some time and as a result themes of human vulnerability are detectable in his street art.

DeepBlue Takes on Blog Action Day

Here at DeepBlue, water is everywhere. That’s not to say that water is not everywhere for everyone else, but at DeepBlue we literally mean everywhere.For example, our company and brand’s names are inspired by water motifs (DeepBlue2, FishHead Creative, and Big Squaid Interactive). We even have visuals around the office associated with water in addition to a giant fish tank!

With that being said, we found it very fitting to participate for the first time in Blog Action Day in order to raise awareness about the human rights and environmental issue on water and water conservation.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), also one of our clients,

Millions of Americans receive high quality drinking water every day from their public water systems, (which may be publicly or privately owned).There are a number of threats to drinking water: improperly disposed of chemicals; animal wastes; pesticides; human wastes; wastes injected deep underground; and naturally-occurring substances can all contaminate drinking water. Likewise, drinking water that is not properly treated or disinfected, or which travels through an improperly maintained distribution system, may also pose a health risk.

Nonetheless, drinking water safety cannot be taken for granted.

Unfortunately we do. There are almost one billion people who do not have access to safe, clean drinking water. The UN suggests that each person needs 20-50 liters of safe fresh water a day to ensure their basic needs for drinking, cooking and cleaning. More than one in six people worldwide —864 million— don’t have access to this amount of safe freshwater.

Wondering how you can help? Well, there is an app for that. Here are some ways that you can utilize technology to become a voice for change and give to those in need.

As a part of the Water Amnesty project, Free Radicals designed My Water Diary which is an app that tracks your daily water usage with the aim to reduce your consumption. It is estimated that we use about 150 liters of water a day. Unsustainable habits such as these equals to detrimental effects for future generations. Conservation is key!

Water Meter is an app that tracks and records all of you water meters and allows you to discover where you can save water.

Cause World helps you find a good cause, such as giving clean water to villages in sub Saharan Africa, that you would want to contribute to all from your phone.
